Many people worldwide suffer from migraines. This disorder occurs extremely annoying due to irritation of the membranes covering the brain meninges. Those overstimulated by irritating pain receptors in the zone, appearing a strong, prolonged, throbbing headache, often accompanied by other symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, dizziness, fatigue. and so on.
But the main symptom associated with migraine photophobia has always been, ie, extreme sensitivity to light. These patients often do not bear the light of the sun or artificial lighting, especially at times when we suffer migraine. So much so that 85% of patients with this type of severe headache also experience photophobia.
Today it has been discovered by the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in the U.S. has come to understand that certain neurons in the retina, when exposed to light, send signals to another group of nerve cells in the thalamus related to pain sensation, specifically for migraine. The more intense and longer the exposure to light, the stronger the signal that triggers migraine and it can be maintained even 30 minutes later to avoid the light stimulus.
This promises to spur new scientific medical understanding of migraine as well as photophobia and hypothesize that could help find an effective treatment for both.Would this be so for those who suffer them to regain their health!
